Apologies for lateness – only just back from holiday
So, on the coming Sunday, 7th Aug we have a trip to The Blorenge, just NE of Blaenavon. The main target will be Red Grouse, with possibilities of other upland species. This is moorland with rough paths and if we need to walk any distance to find the birds, some inclines will likely be involved [note the contour lines on the map below]. The meet point will be the Foxhunter car park [by two transmission pylons], which is on the minor road that runs ENE off the B4246, about a mile N of Blaenavon. It’s indicated on the jpeg map below. It’s about an hour run from Cardiff so I suggest meeting there at 09:30. The route can be either via M4/Newport/Pontypool or via A470/Merthyr/A465 heads of the valleys but I’m not sure what the A465 works are like at the eastern end [Clydach area]. For car sharing I suggest meeting at St Margarets Rd to leave there at 8.
So please [a] email me if you plan to attend – please include your mobile number in your message; and [b] indicate whether you will go straight there or wish to, or are willing to, car share.
