Formed in 1989, we publish an annual Bird Report, organise a full year-long programme of field trips and walks, including a monthly walk at Kenfig National Nature Reserve, and a series of indoor talks and presentations from October through to April.
We’re a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join, whether beginner or expert. We are particularly keen to encourage beginners and younger birders to join and enjoy our activities.
Aside from our ‘core’ birding activities, whenever possible we aim to instigate or be involved with conservation work which in its simplest form can be making basic nest boxes, but can involve major projects such as the Cardiff Bay swift tower – there’s more info here.
The production and publication of our annual bird report is an important function and full details about it and what it entails can be found here.

For bird news there are several options:

  • The sightings page on this site
  • The #glambirds Twitter feed
  • A local Whatsapp group – Birdwatch South Wales {search for that and ask to be added}. This is currently the channel with the most use.
  • and of course the various national news sources.

There’s always quite a lot going on via various channels on social media, in addition to what you can see on this site. We have a pretty active Facebook page which you can visit by clicking the logo above. We use that to announce outings, talks etc and their outcomes, and other news. There’s also a news page on this site which we try to keep up to date as well. That’s also used as a channel to advertise upcoming events.
