Llanrhidian Marsh

A cracking couple of hours this afternoon produced a hunting Short-eared Owl, a female/immature Merlin, two ringtail Hen Harriers, a Red Kite and a very brief glimpse of two Great White Egrets going into roost – unfortunately they landed around the back of the usual tree as did most of the Little Egrets today.

Neil, where is the best spot to watch birds coming in to roost at Llanrhidian Marsh? I’ve tried several times from along Marsh Road but without success. Am I in the wrong spot or just been unlucky?

Chris – basically the end of the marsh road closest to Llanrhidian Village. There is a farm set back form the road with new wooden buildings that you can park close to and scan the marsh either from the raised bank, or if its cold, from inside the car… The egrets tend to roost in trees near the church looking towards Woebly Castle. The Short-eared Owl was hunting about half way out looking towards Whiteford NNR and the harriers in the same place yesterday, but they could be present anywhere. Good Luck…
