John, good shots.
I was down this morning from 11.00am to 1 pm taking shots. The duck was very active diving for a good hour, then slept for an hour then flew off at 1pm when I left. It has been missing quite a few days (particullarly when the sun is out – every day I go down to take photos!) – so good to hear it came back later this afternoon. What time did you go down?
I thought they only ate sea molluscs but it was diving on the edge of the feeding flock of swans – the swans were obviously stirring up the bottom as they grabbed for bread and the LTD was probably picking up the wildlife that was thrown up.
Hi Andy
My wife & I went down for a walk at around 2 p.m. I’ve got a nice head shot [cropped] which shows the bill serrations used for chomping on molluscs which I’ll post in a mo. I guess as it’s out of its normal habitat it’ll eat whatever it can get it’s bill on.

No sign of any med gulls when I was there.
