A good day for migrants with at least four whitethroats, lesser whitethroat, common sandpiper, grasshopper warbler and a male redstart. Thanks Neil for finding the redstart, I hope to catch up with the gropper tomorrow. A drake shoveler turned up on the pool later and there were 11 white wagtails on the haul road sandy scrapes.
By early afternoon the Redstart was still confiding and doing a large circuit of the big mown area between the Reserve centre and Pool. The Lesser Whitethroat is ranging all over the place and a Cetti’s Warbler is also giving brief views. Butterflies on the Reserve this morning: 3 Brimstone, 2 Orange Tip, 2 Peacock, 5 Small Tortoiseshell, 2 Green-veined White and a Speckled Wood.
