Matthew, I suspect your first thought may be correct, but would be nice to see some flight shots and it alongside another bird to judge size – bill and head both look relatively large.
Hi Barry, sadly I only took this one shot of it, but I can tell you what me and my dad saw. We noticed
it was slightly bigger than the other gulls there and strikingly white. We had a brief glimpse of it flying but I did not really know what to look out for.
Matthew, this looks like the 2nd winter herring gull that has been at Cosmeston most of the winter. At first we looked very closely at it but realised it was only a herring gull. I took a quick shot of it today but it was a long way off. http://andyburnsphotography.zenfolio.com/gullspares/h15bd00d3#h15bd00d3
I have seen it flying a number of times and it shows a typical herring pattern although very ‘washed out’.

Hi Matthew, what were the other gulls?
Lesser black backs and herring gulls
