Well, it might be something of a birdless desert out there locally just now, but here’s a reminder that Glamorgan can occasionally come up trumps: Little Whimbrel at Sker, September 1982 (filmed on Super 8 by Alan Shaw).

Nice one Paul – thanks for sharing that. Sooo jealous I wasn’t living in Wales when that turned up. What a stunning bird.
Wow, that is fantastic!!! Not so jealous 😉
Fabulous bird. The jizz reminds me a bit of an Upland Sandpiper. This one was sadly before my time.
wow – great bird, but stubble fields at Sker instead of the current sterile “organic” wilderness. Those were the days…
I saw what was probably the same bird at Cley. Brings back happy memories from my twitching days. Thanks for sharing Paul. I’ve checked the east shore of Kenfig Pool every morning before work since Neil’s departure with very little reward. Pintail, 5 wigeon and little else. Still no tufted ducks or pochards this summer/autumn!
Luckily I saw both birds {or the same bird twice} and photographed the Sker bird – and sold many hundreds of prints of it too! It has been published several times notably in American birds mag. Strangely I had – after many years – a letter from San Francisco containing the original print used in the mag. It had been found in the rubble of a building demolished by the earthquake that had downed one of the major bridges. My address was on the back so they sent it!
