A long-tailed duck was a nice surprise this morning, associating with 14 tufties and the female goldeneye on the main lagoon. Also 3 shovellers, 1 teal, 12 mallards, 3 little grebes, 1 moorhen, 4 coots and a heron.
Good question! You need special permission from the owners (Celsa UK) to go inside the fence. Outside the fence it is a dog-walker’s free for all but I think officially there is still no public access.
Yes, these photos were all from outside the fence (we only go inside to do the monthly Webs count, to minimise disturbance). The LT duck is at the S end of the main lagoon.
There is an outer and an inner perimeter fence around Llanishen res. There are a couple of access points to get thru the outer fence which are used by many dog walkers but I guess technically once thru this fence you are trespassing. You then clamber up the steep bank and view from outside the inner fence. I park my car at the corner of Ewenny Rd and Towy Rd where there is an access to the park and walk through the park heading east(left) for about 50 yds. I believe llanishen res is an SSSI as well as Lisvane res but as I`ve already mentioned I`m only following all the dog walkers and viewing otherwise is pretty well impossible.
All birders please note my new post re this. There is no public access and anyone who does so is trespassing, and jeopardising the negotiated access for the small group who monitor the water birds present and carry out WeBS counts.
Hi Rob, is it possible to access Llanishen Reservoir now, or do you need special permission from the owner?

Hello Rob, nice find. I haven’t been to LR since the 80’s.. how things have changed! Can you get decent views of the LTD from outside the fence?

Thanks Rob, we’ll give it a go early tomorrow morning if weather’s not too bad.

We are only familiar with the Lisvane Rd access, so thanks for that Alan.
