Finally, 2 singing Blackcaps this morning in trees behind Longwood, Coryton. Yesterday, 4 Swallows flew up the River Taff at Forest Farm, Whitchurch.
Forest Farm
No sign of the Bittern this morning, although 3 Snipe, 3 Water Rail (2 of which heard only), 2 kingfisher, 2 Moorhen, 1 Reed Bunting and 2 Buzzards from both hides. Also at least 1 Chiffchaff near the canal, presumably last week’s individual.
Forest Farm
Chiffchaff was the highlight of a morning visit yesterday. Bittern reported briefly earlier in the morning from Llyn Y Gamlas (the doorless hide). Also present were 3 Snipe, 2 Reed Bunting and 2 Kingfisher.

1 Great Northern Diver still there at 4pm this evening during a brief visit.
Roath Park Lake
Shoveler (5) and Teal (2) were a nice surprise during today’s Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS) count.
Both are scarce species at Roath Park Lake in terms of this survey. This was only the 10th WeBS record for Shoveler at this site (the last being in April 2011) and, incredibly, the first record of Teal. No doubt there are other non-WeBS records for both species at Roath Park on the GBC database.
‘Radyr Floodplain’ (ST140802)
Very quiet this morning: Tree Pipit (1), Meadow Pipit (24 f/o) and a few Blackcaps, Chiffs and Swallows. The Whitethroats appear to have cleared out.
