4 Spotted Flycatchers there this afternoon.
46 species this morning. A Spotted Flycatcher was the highlight. Other signs of birds on the move included: Tree Pipit (3), Meadow Pipit (4), Snipe (2 f/o), Rook (6 f/o – unusual here), low double figure counts of both Chiffchaff and Blackcap and numbers of Woodpigeon (especially lots of juvs amongst them) are picking up. (DJJ/GJJ)
A count of 20 spotted flycatchers mixed in with willow warblers and chiffchaffs feeding together. I assume getting ready for return migration? (NJD pers comm)
A Tree Pipit, 2 fly over Snipe and a Clouded Yellow were the highlights this morning. Back to earth with a bump!
More info on this morning’s Nightingale. The bird was perched up in an elder on Radyr Floodplain for c.5mins at ST141802. It then flew into dense cover but, despite an hour’s search, it was sadly not seen again (DJJ).
Tree Pipit (1) and Garden Warbler (1) this morning.
Autumn has officially begun on the floodplain! A migrant Redstart there this morning.
Quiet on the bird front, but good numbers of common butterflies, with a single Clouded Yellow being the highlight.
Goshawk flew high over this morning. Leps: Silver-washed Fritillary; Ringlet; Peacock; Large, Small & Green-veined White; Meadow Brown; Speckled Wood. A Brimstone was a surprise. (Daniel & Gethin Jenkins-Jones).
1 Little Egret on Llanishen and Tufted Duck numbers building up on Lisvane – 144 for there this morning during my WeBS count.
