went to llwyn on res today, not much apart from 7 Comorants 3 herring guls the usual blue tits, great tits, coal tits 3 – 5 ) also a goldcrest, 10+ robins …
we then ventured into garwnant where we went on one of the walks by the river / stream and we came across 2 dippers and carries on walking towards the woods and came across loads of different tits and for a first time ever we saw a flock of around 10+ crossbills along with chaffinches and there was a buzzard calling out in the trees. not bad but brilliant to see crossbills 🙂

sorry non bird sighting
hi all just a bird related post but not a sighting
can you pass this on im doing a little challenge / survay about birds in the garden
i have made a page on facebook for people across south wales to post what they see on their bird feeders whatever time a day and they can post as many times as they like along with where their location is and what day, and hopefully with enough people across south wales and if people hopefully posts on here i can gather this information and see whats thriving and whats declining in our gardens and also what wildlife is around too.
im setting myself this task because its nice to help or attract people into start looking after their wildlife
so please with your help can you share this link thank you i know it may be pointless but its a bit of fun for people as well 🙂

dead bird survey abaeravon beach
hello done a beached survey on aberavon beach from the end of the prom down to the river along sanddunes did not do other half of beach due to tide coming in and i encountered a number of 23 dead seabirds 😦 5 first year puffins, 1 fulmar, 1 unknown gull, 5 razorbills and 10 guillemots there was one strange thing i noticed about the dead birds that they were all intact except that most of their legs had been cut off and there were 3 birds with there heads and legs cut clean off which i found quite strange didnt look like animal contact most birds eyes were still visiable there was one bird which was a razorbill that was ringed metal ring from brit museum M77 212 looked as if it was just ringed no scrapes or sings of age such a sad time
Bird Deaths
i braved the 100mph winds in aberavon beach up to the docks, i did see the ross’s gull, LG, HG, LBBG, BHG and the Med Guls
i also looked in the lake where i saw 4 swans, 8 mallards, 4 coots and a female goosander
the dead bird count was a very sad 6 guillemots some still in summer plumage and some in witer plumage, a fulmar and a ringed razorbill with metal ring on right leg starting with the numbers K16 534 from Brit Museum, London SW4 i managed to get the ring as the bird was rather decomposed and i could identify the bird by its beak 😦 also to my horror down by the old peoples homes not swn y mor but the one before it was a female harbour porpoise which just died as i went to it 😦 broke my heart phoned coastgard and it had been notified and by the time they went to collect it it washed back out to the sea 😦 if i were there earlier i could or tried to have saved it i know it sounds stupid but judging by its blow hole and swollen abdomen, it looked like it had drowned and water and gases filled up the body, tongue was not swollen, it did have a lot of dents in her skin good but very sad day, i did look along the coast to see if i could find birds alive but nope mostly dead ones.
ringed bird

while i was down the beach today there were a few ringed plovers by the sea and i noticed in my photos a bird have got a ringtag on it i think its white and yellow after playing about on photoshop but i cant tell if its a ringed sandpiper or a dunlin
