A single somewhat elusive Black Redstart (fem/imm) showed briefly on the roof-tops in Plas Taliesin 8.40-8.50am. This female may have chased off the male seen here on Thursday.Also here 4 Redshank on the shore line.
The drake Lsr Scaup was back on CBWR together with c.150+ Tufted Ducks. No sign of the BNG tho it was reported present under the fly-over earlier this morning.A large butterfly-species unclear.

2 Black Redstarts (1 ad.m and 1 fem/imm.) chasing each other across the roof-tops at the beginning of Plas Taliesin best viewed both from inside the cul-de-sac opposite the road sign on the corner and also from the road adjacent to the bay, where up to 3 Redshanks are also present on the shore line.8.50-9.15am.

Ad.m.Black Redstart glimpsed twice on the ridge-tiles in Plas Taliesin around 1pm but could not re-locate.
BNG still present under the fly-over together with the Lsr Scaup in company with c.20 Tufted Duck close to the west bank of the Taff.

No sign of Lsr Scaup this am on CBWR. Large exodus of ducks: only 15 Tufted Ducks seen on the reserve, none at Prospect Place and just 15 seen elsewhere in the bay.
In The Marl playing fields,a single ad.w.Med Gull, a flock of 36 Greenfinch and 2 Redwing.

The Lsr Scaup was back on CBWR this morning with c.66 Tufted Ducks after being absent on Monday and Tuesday. 2 GBB Gulls were in front of the Pier Head building and another 2 off the barrage with c.50+ Common Gulls and a Kingfisher present in Penarth Marina. Yesterday in CBWR a Chiffchaff showed well in the reedbed in front of St.David’s Hotel with c.8 Reed Buntings.

The Lsr Scaup was back in CBWR yesterday with c.160 Tufted Duck but no sign of it today and only
c.40 Tufted Duck on the reserve with c.20 at Prospect Place and about another 20 in the Taff rivermouth. A Chiffchaff showed well in the riverside trees in Hamadryad Park and a Peregrine was perched on Penarth Head.

No sign of Bearded Tit this morning in CBWR despite extensive search (with Dave G). Lesser Scaup still present with c.100 Tufted Duck. Rockit, Robin, quite a few Linnet and the usual Common Gulls on the barrage. 2 solitary Redshank between Penarth Marina and Ely rivermouth present for the last 10 days or so.Several Redwing in The Marl.

The Starlings are beginning to gather at CBWR with perhaps maximum of c.1500-2000 birds, most of whom are going down at about 4.15pm. Yesterday there were c.130 Tufted Duck and c.25 Teal in the reserve. An ad.Med Gull was on The Marl playing fields. Today at the barrage there was no sign of the Black Redstart. A Curlew was in the outer harbour and 10 Common Gulls on the orange buoys.

Cardiff Barrage

Ist-s male Black Redstart on the sea-ward rocks of the outer harbour towards the end of the viewing platform 10.45am. Emerged suddenly so may have come from inside the harbour wall like last year’s bird. It flew off to the base of the nearby cliffs moving towards Penarth Head where it was seen 30mins later perched up on a groyne.
