Lesser Scaup and Goldeneye back at Prospect Place this lunchtime.
2 Common Gulls on the orange buoys at the barrage and a Common Sandpiper at the Ely rivermouth. An ad. Med Gull on The Marl playing fields.

Cardiff Bay 10.30-3.00pm
Water Rail showed well for 6-7 mins on the north side of the ‘pond’ in Hamadryad Park at 10.45am with 6 Little Grebes on the Taff.
(with Dean T) after 2 days at Prospect Place, the Lesser Scaup and Goldeneye were back in CBWR with at least 40+ Tufted Duck, c.285 Canada Geese, 1 Kingfisher, 9 Little Grebe, 2 Grey Heron and a 2nd.w. Med Gull.
2 GBB Gulls were on the Pierhead pontoons and another Kingfisher at Ely rivermouth. 2 ad.w. Med Gulls were on the pontoons at the Sand Wharf building.

In Hamadryad Park a vocal and mobile Cetti’s and a Water Rail calling on the north side of the ‘pond’; the pontoons on the Taff have disappeared.
CBWR: Lesser Scaup present with 72 Tufted Duck, Kingfisher, 2 Herons and 9 Little Grebes; 4 Water Rails calling including 2 close to both sides of the boardwalk.
Barrage: Kestrel and Wheatear f/o and Curlew in sea.

Lesser Scaup and a pair of Kingfishers present this pm. After many aborted attempts, I finally arrived at a good guessimate of c.250 Canada Geese; otherwise impossible to count precisely because they are mainly in one group, constantly intermingling.

Lesser Scaup, Pochard, 3 Tufties and a Kingfisher at CBWR this am. 2 GBB Gulls on the Pierhead pontoons. The Goldeneye is back at Prospect Place with 46 Tufties.

Lesser Scaup at the far end of the reserve from the boardwalk this pm with Kingfisher and 2 Water Rail calling. 2 GBB Gulls on the Pierhead pontoons. 2 Wheatear on the grass banks of the barrage with Rock Pipit, and Raven over.

Lesser Scaup on the reserve again this pm. Water Rail squealing just off the boardwalk. Ad.Med Gull on pontoon in Hamadryad Park. The barrage path by the side of the outer harbour is closed for 8 weeks from 30 Sept.

3 Wheatear; Pheasant; Buzzard over. 2 Clouded yellow, Painted lady, 3 Small tortoiseshell, Common blue.Very little vizmig.

Lesser Scaup by ice rink/Watermark building this pm. White Wagtail near Lock Cottage by Penarth Marina entrance. Stonechat in CBWR near road.

Drake Lesser Scaup still present at CBWR mostly at the far end of the reserve from the boardwalk. 3 Stonechat at the boardwalk end near the road. In Hamadryad Park ‘pond’, a Cetti’s showed well, also Common Whitethroat, Blackcap and the ubiquitous Chiffchaff occasionally heard singing. On the Taff 4 Wigeon off the park.

A Cetti’s showed briefly but really well in trees just under the fly-over in Hamadryad Park and a Kingfisher was on the ‘pond’. 4 Stonechat still present in CBWR with 4 Teal and c.250 Canada Geese. A GBB Gull was on the Pierhead pontoons. An ad. Med Gull was on The Marl playing fields.

Yesterday evening, a family party of 4 Stonechat in the small reed bed by St.Davids Hotel.Also Blackcap, several Chiffchaff, 3 Cetti’s singing.
Cardiff Foreshore – WTW
No sign of Wryneck 9.30-2.00pm. 1 Wheatear; 2 Peregrines hunting together before alighting on the second pylon north; good passage of swallows and pipits, some goldfinch, a few linnet and wagtails.4 Curlew. 4 Clouded yellow; 2 Common blue (m+f); Meadow brown. Yesterday 2 Ruddy Shelduck.

2 Spotted Fly in the rear of Hamadryad Hospital in trees facing the fields. 2 fem.Goldeneye still off the Watermark building.

Yesterday 2 Goldeneye back again by the ice rink with 1 Teal and 2 further Teal around the corner in the Ely river mouth. The usual ad. Med Gull with dark bill and a white mark on it on Hamadryad Park playing fields and a Cetti’s singing in the ‘pond’.

3 Med Gulls in and around Hamadryad Park today. No Willow Tit but report of one in scrub along river bank by pontoons.

Single Med Gull on playing fields in Hamadryad Park among c.300+ B-H Gulls. 8 GBB Gulls on the Pierhead pontoons and a Wheatear on the barrage with 2 Chiffchaff who seem to be everywhere today.
