Little Gull on Taff again but soon flew off towards the bay 11.30am. Vg views of Sprawk male on roofs in Plas Taliesin. Yesterday 3 Black Redstarts ( 1 m, 2 f ).

Little Gull back on the Taff by Hamadryad Park opp. Channel View 9.30am and 11.30am. 4 Sand Martins there also, and a ringed ad. Med Gull in sum.plumage on the pontoon by The Sand Wharf building – again flew off before I could scope it. 2 Black Redstarts ( ad.m and fem/imm ) still present in the outer harbour and Plas St. Andresse.

Wheatear (ad.m) flying north u/s on the Taff by Hamadryad Park = alighted in tree beside me. Single Sand Martin over by Channel View. In Penarth Marina, 3 Black Redstarts still present (1 singing male,2 f).

A stonking ringed Med Gull in virtually full summer plumage on the pontoon by the Sand Wharf building – it flew off before I could scope it.1.00pm.2 Water Rails showed well in Hamadryad ‘pond’. The Lsr Scaup was still in the reserve with 2/3 Kingfishers. 3 Black Redstarts (1m, 2 f) still present in the outer harbour and Plas Taliesin. The Little Gull was just u/s from Channel View and floated down to the green and red buoys without taking flight for about 50 mins.

Chiffchaff seen around Hamadryad ‘pond’. Song Thrush near Clarence Embankment entrance singing a great variety of songs including a good imitation of Willow Tit call. 2 Stonechat (m+f) on the reserve yesterday and Lsr Scaup, Cetti’s and Water Rail showing well today close off the boardwalk. 4 Black Redstart (2m,2f) still present in the harbour and Plas Taliesin.

4 Black Redstart: one ad.male around the outer harbour sea-wall again (also present yesterday and Thurs), and another ad.male in the marina, together with 2 fem.types . Lsr Scaup back on the reserve 2pm.

Great Northern Diver present again lunchtime (1.15-1.20pm) from Plas Taliesin c.100-300m off the orange buoys on the barrage out along the line of yellow buoys.In CBWR, Lsr Scaup not very far from the boardwalk for a change but the hybrid much more mobile and showing well close inshore by the entrance to Hamadryad ‘pond’. In Penarth Marina, still 2 Black Redstarts (1m,1f).

Great Northern Diver 75m off Plas Taliesin and Ely river mouth 2.00-2.15pm, disappeared towards the barrage, I think. In Penarth Marina lunchtime, 2 Black Redstarts (1m,1f) showing again. In CBWR, both the Lsr Scaup and the hybrid were present this morning.In Grangemoor Park this pm, a party of 5 Bullfinch (2m,3f) from the boundary path.

6 Gooseander at Clarence Road Bridge. Lsr Scaup under Grangetown fly-over (A4232), hybrid not seen. In CBWR 160+ Tufted Duck, 32 Teal, Kestrel, Stonechat, Cetti’s showing well, mechanical digger clearing reeds again. 2 Peregrine at Penarth Head. 2nd winter Med Gull over outer harbour of barrage. In Penarth Marina only 1 f. Black Redstart seen this am-the first time in 3 months a male not seen.

2 ad.male Black Redstart seen together yesterday and today with 2 fem/imm types. A 2nd yr Med Gull and 2 GBB Gulls f/o by the harbour entrance (thanks to JDW).

Great Northern Diver present this am again seeming to favour the north side of the bay between the harbour authority building up to the Norwegian Church. On CBWR the Lsr Scaup and Pintail showed well from the boardwalk, but the hybrid was not seen. In Penarth Marina there were 2 Black Redstart (1m, 1 f) though Graham Smith saw 3 females this morning. Off Hamadryad Park there were 3 Gooseander (2m,1f) and a fem Bullfinch in Grangemoor Park.
CBWR
Yesterday afternoon, the Lsr Scaup was present but the hybrid resembling it had left the reserve and was showing well with some Tufted Ducks just down stream from Grangetown flyover ( Butetown Link Road A4232 ) on the reserve side of the Taff.
