Sker

A male sparrowhawk and 3 whinchats were the best sightings on a stroll to Sker Point and back. One whinchat was near Pink Bay pond and the other two were close to Sker farm pond.
Also, 7 wheatears, 2 white wagtails, c70 linnets, c50 goldfinches and 2 skylarks.

Redstarts

Managed to catch up with the very smart-looking redstart found by Darren Coombs near Kenfig Castle this morning.
This afternoon I popped into Parc Slip and found another male redstart among the bushes near the end of the wooden fence along the canal path.

Sker

Two purple sandpipers were at Pink Bay this morning. The eider seen on Monday was still at Sker point at high tide. On the footpath from Pink Bay to Sker Court a barn swallow perching on the fence was a nice surprise.

Sker House fields etc.

Nothing special to report, but lots of migrant activity.
Around 20 stonechats-the most I’ve seen in this area, 2 whinchats, 4 common whitethroats, c 200 starlings, c 50 linnets, 1 reed bunting by the golf course pond, 4 rock pipits on the beach, good numbers of meadow pipits, goldfinches, wheatears and a few yellow wagtails.
Buzzard, kestrel and a sparrowhawk causing mayhem.
On Saturday a black-tailed godwit was a first for me at Sker.

Pink Bay to Sker Point

S10100082 very mobile whinchats on the stone wall 300m west of lifeguards’ cabin at Pink Bay. In the same area, slightly closer to Sker, 4 yellow wagtails were feeding among the Welsh black cattle.
12 wheatears, 7 stonechats, 2 rock pipits and a mixed flock of 50 mainly linnets with a few goldfinches and meadow pipits thrown in.
Not many waders to report; just 3 curlews and 48 oystercatchers on Sker beach.

Pink Bay to Sker Point

Sker rocks almost completely submerged at high tide this morning. Nothing special to report, but had good close-up views of the gulls and waders that had been pushed up onto the shingle and near to the coastal path.

7 purple sandpipers, 3 bar-tailed godwits, 2 knot, 17 sanderlings, 8 ringed plovers, 15 curlews and only 7 golden plovers. Lots of turnstones and approx. 150 oystercatchers. Gulls numbered about 200, nearly all herring gulls, apart from 2 l-b-backs and singles of g-b-backed and black-headed.
