Yesterday -Red kite over A3232 between M4 and Culverhouse.

CBNR  Just missed the  Ring Necked Duck, at least two Chettis Warblers, Wren , Goldfinch, Moorhen,Coot, Reed Warblers heard, 14+ Great Crested Grebe, Coot, Moorhen, Mallard, Mute Swan, House Sparrow, Tufties, 20 + hirundines over, too fast to identify.

In blustery wet weather, there were nine participants on the monthly bird walk this morning. Conditions improved, enabling us to see/hear 38 species.

Jackdaw, Starling, Collared dove, Robin, Woodpigeon, Chaffinch, Great tit, Blue tit, Dunnock , Song thrush, House sparrow, Mute swan, Gadwall, Mallard, Coot, Tufted duck, Great- crested grebe, Shoveller, Goldeneye, Cormorant, Moorhen,Redshank, Black-headed gull, Herring gull, Lesser black-backed gull, Pochard,Wigeon,Common gull,  Teal, Goldcrest, Long-tailed tit, Magpie, Blackbird, Chiffchaff, Wren, Pied wagtail, Redwing, Cetti’s warbler-heard.

Kenfig NNR

A lovely sunny morning for the  the monthly birdwalk,  16 participants, good to see some old friends. 40 species seen or heard.

Starling, Collared Dove, Magpie, Chaffinch, Robin, Great tit, Blackbird, Song thrush, Mistle thrush, Dunnock, Carrion Crow, Greenfinch, House Sparrow, Blue tit, Woodpigeon, Chiff- chaff, Bullfinch, Skylark, Wren, Mute Swan, Great Crested Grebe, Stonechat, Chetti’s Warbler(H), Long-tailed Tit, Teal, Mallard, Cormorant, Canada Goose, Coot, Jackdaw, Meadow pippit, Moorhen, Black-headed Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Herring Gull, Goldcrest, Gadwall, Kestrel, Treecreeper, Pheasant.

Kenfig

Despite the rain, there were 9 participants on the Saturday morning monthly walk today. Thankfully the weather quickly cleared, enabling us to identify 38 species which included 2 heard-  cetties and sedge warbler-. Highlights were jay, lesser whitethroat, coot wth one chick, and greylag with two goslings. Lots of birdsong and spring flowers made a special show. Many thanks to Strinda Davies.

Forest Farm

25 species at Forest Farm this afternoon, including blackcap, bullfinch, long tailed tit, reed warbler(could have been sedge!)  Two sets of moorhen chicks, 6 swift over the centre towards the river, about 10 house martin flying off towards Asda. Great tit hopped into the hide with no door-it now has a door- while we were there!

Kenfig Pool

Yesterday afternoon in the drizzle- 2 pairs of Great Crested Grebe, Mallard, Tufted Duck, Goldeneye, Coot, Mute Swan, Grey Heron, Buzzard, 2+ Sandmartin ( They wouldn’t keep still! Almost convinced one was a House Martin, but it was quite far away ) Little Grebe, Gadwall, Canada Geese, Lapwing, Stonechat on the East shore and at least 10 Reed Buntings by the centre.

Kenfig Bird Walk

34 species on the Saturday morning monthly walk-humid and overcast- including 4 Whimbrel flying towards the sea, lots of juvenile Whitethroat, linnet in the car park, 3 Grey Heron around the pool and a Great Spotted Woodpecker near the feeders. Also- a slow worm, frog, lizard, a rabbit family, lots of dragonfies/ damselflies including a very close female emperor, red admiral, gatekeeper, burnet moth. Thanks Strinder!

Pencoed- After seeing only 3 swift here this year – a party of 9 over Coychurch Road- phew!
