My local (Canton/Riverside border) swifts arrived back today, pretty much on time. And I saw a number of other groups around West Cardiff today.

A perfect swift evening – I’ve had about 20 partying in the local (Canton) streets, whizzing about and calling. I think some of the young ones have fledged. And as it’s been so still, the calls have really carried. Think they are really enjoying this warm weather. Tomorrow night might be good as well.

Was good to see the peregrine come out to welcome back the Welsh Team yesterday. It did a couple of leisurely turns over the Taff just as the bus carrying the team was approaching. It then flew off in a SW direction.

Saw my first local swifts today at about 5.00pm. 4th May is usually when they’re back and as I hadn’t seen any – not a single one – I kept looking out this afternoon. And there were 2, soon joined by another 3, circling about down the road, near where there are some nests.

So – that heralds the beginning of several weeks of wet miserable weather…..!
