Cuckoo heard calling for second consecutive evening. Two passing through or one stayer? Distant but clear.
Also heard pheasant from garden for first time in a while. Used to hear lots.
Swift over garden again. First one this year appeared on 1st May.

Feeling fortunate to have plenty of birds in or over the garden during this time. First pair of swallows seen over on the 10th but none hanging around yet. Chiffchaff, Blackcap and Garden Warbler have all taken up residency. Other birds over the long weekend – bullfinch (pair), chaffinch, goldfinch, blue tit, great tit, long tailed tit, coal tit, robin, wren, dunnock, house sparrow, blackbird, song thrush, mistle thrush, green woodpecker, great spotted woodpecker, nuthatch, treecreeper, pied wagtail, grey wagtail, collared dove, woodpigeon, jackdaw, carrion crow, magpie, jay, raven, buzzard, red kite, peregrine, sparrowhawk, herring gull,

4 red kites circling over the house and surrounding fields today. Whilst red kite is a regular sighting, this is the first time I have seen 4 together in this location. Joined by a raven and several carrion crows.
In the garden today, 2 treecreeper (only had singles before), great spotted woodpecker, nuthatch, blackbird, robin, dunnock, blue/great/coal tit, chaffinch, wood pigeon (7), collared dove, magpie, jay, grey wagtail (2), tawny owl calling this evening.

Nuthatch young appeared in the garden this weekend. Appears to be adult with 2 young. Other species in or over the garden on the weekend – buzzard, red kite, tawny owl, swallow, house martin, swift, raven, carrion crow, jackdaw, magpie, jay, herring gull, wood pigeon, collared dove, robin, blackbird, dunnock, wren, blue tit, great tit, coal tit, chaffinch, bullfinch, goldfinch, chiffchaff, willow warbler, song thrush, great spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker, treecreeper

Cuckoo heard calling in Ogwr Fach valley below Glynogwr around noon today. Large numbers of Willow Warblers together with Chiffchaff and occasional Blackcap. Swallows and Sand Martin over the river, as were three Mallard. Dipper. Buzzard. Carrion Crow. Woodpigeon. Mipits in bracken on hillside. Robin, Wren, Dunnock, Blackbird, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Chaffinch.

Male Hen Harrier quartering field at junction of Pant Hirwaun and Heol Laethog at 1:00 today before heading off south towards Cefn Hirgoed.

Barn Owl ventured into trees at edge of garden from adjacent field at 9:30 last night. Another new garden bird.

Single Brambling provided a new garden list bird and a great start to a frosty morning.

2 x Raven circling high over the garden Sunday 2nd September. Swallows still with us. Plenty of buzzard activity, up to 3 together. Sparrowhawk, Carrion Crow, Magpie, Herring Gull, Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove, Blackbird, Robin, Dunnock, Nuthatch, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Chaffinch, Green Woodpecker.

Fly-over cormorant added new bird to my garden list today. Single Red Kite has been over garden and surrounding fields daily for about a week now. Plenty of young birds, particularly robins, blackbirds and tits. Up to 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker attending feeders at same time. Treecreeper in woodland today.

Cuckoo heard in garden this morning – also yesterday evening though more distant.

Cuckoo in the garden today. It didn’t dwell, moving through fairly quickly from south to north and on up towards the hills. Much later than last year. Garden warbler has been in an area of gorse and scrub on the edge of the wood for a week now. Very happy to have chiffchaff, willow warbler, blackcap and garden warbler all present.
Swallows and house martins today. 2 raven and 3 common buzzard over.

Barn Swallows have now reached the garden and pleased to have Willow Warbler as new garden bird yesterday which is still around this morning so hoping it may stay. Morning birdsong just now is fabulous.

Common Whitethroat appears to have taken up residence in garden. Has been seen and heard singing every day since Saturday.

First swallows in fields and on lines just below the house, so not quite a 2018 garden tick yet.
Lots of evidence of nesting activity in the garden including pairs of wood pigeon, collared dove, jay, bullfinch, chaffinch, blackcap, blackbird, great spotted woodpecker. Plenty of blue, great, coal tits with long tailed tit flocks around and goldfinch. Singing chiffchaff and song thrush and very vocal tawny owl close by at dusk.

First singing Blackcap in garden yesterday. Also singing Chiffchaff. Reed bunting still visiting but less regular now. Goldfinch, chaffinch, great, blue, coal and long tailed tits, great spotted woodpecker (also drumming), nuthatch, house sparrow, dunnock, robin, wren, blackbird, song thrush, magpie, jackdaw, carrion crow, wood pigeon, collared dove. Still awaiting first hirundines over.
