Singing Chiffchaff in garden yesterday – first of year

Brief drive along New Road today. Great White Egret below Weobley Castle, Wheatear from Marsh Road just west of Crofty and single Red Kite over Penclawdd

Short spell birding from comfort of car along Heol Spencer prompted by Northern Wheatear in flight along roadside. Stonechat (m&f), Meadow Pipit, Snipe.

Reed Bunting in the garden over last few days is a garden first. Lots of activity around the feeders and garden in the snow. Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove, Magpie, Jay, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch, Robin, Dunnock, Blackbird, Wren, Blue, Great, Coal and Long-tailed Tits, pair Bullfinch, Chaffinch, Reed Bunting

Snipe in the garden still this morning. Also 2 Mistle thrush, 4 redwing, single fieldfare together with more regular garden birds. Pleased that the birds are coming to me as I am seriously snowed in!

Very pleased to add Common Snipe to my garden list this afternoon. Fabulous views of barn owl flitting between fence posts on Felindre Road, close to junction with road to Llanilid. 10 pm Sunday 21st.

Single Red Kite over garden this afternoon. Also buzzard, single raven, carrion crow, jackdaw, magpie and jay. Mistle thrush. Usual garden birds at feeders – great, blue, coal and long-tailed tits joined by nuthatch and chaffinch. Robin, wren, dunnock, blackbird. Striking grey wagtail. Pied wagtail.

Single Red Kite spent large part of the day over or in view from the garden. Also 4 Swift, 4 Swallows, single Raven, 3 Buzzard, Sparrowhawk. Grey Wagtail visited the pond.

Very smart male Redstart was a garden first this morning. It stayed for a few minutes flitting between perching on top of a feeder station and exploring the lawn. I suspect it is on it’s way further north into the hills and unlikely to treat us to any further views.

Pleased to see swallows over the garden for first time this year.
