Port Eynon & Overton

9 purple sandpiper, 32 turnstone, ringed plover (no accurate count), 32 oystercatcher, 5 curlew, little egret, 4 shag and a Med gull on Sedger’s Bank

Chiffchaff in with a mixed tit and goldcrest flock at Overton STW.  Small roost of oystercatcher (12) and a little egret on the rocks.

Oxwich Marsh

Brambling, small flocks of fieldfare and a roost of c. 1,500 starlings on the marsh this morning.  Redpolls over and flocks of 30+ siskin around.

Starling roost is close to the hide.  The noise prior to the roost dispersing, and the sound when they do is a real experience

Jack snipe ringed this morning (photo by Charlie Sargent below of bird squatting on release).  30-40 common snipe present.

20 redwing also ringed there.  Crest numbers lower than a week or so ago, but 11 goldcrest caught and ringed, taking the total to almost 120 individuals in the past two weeks.

Lesser redpoll present in small numbers (groups of 1-3) around the marsh, and small flocks of siskin also around.

Oxwich Marsh

Passage of siskins noted for the first few hours of the morning.  Tree pipit in flight over marsh and whinchat with stonechats in bracken and willowherb.

Today: spotted flycatcher

Yesterday: goshawk (2), red kite, whinchat, grasshopper warbler.
