11 Aug: 23 blackcaps, 17 willow warbler and two grasshopper warbler trapped and ringed
12 Aug: mass overnight exodus of warblers apparent. Very few birds in marsh, but included a lesser whitethroat
Highlights of the last few days at the marsh have been 4 garden warbler and a grasshopper warbler.

Recent bird records from Oxwich include: lesser whitethroat (different birds) on 30 and 31 July, garden warbler 31 July, lesser redpoll (small-scale passage noted in late July and 2 bird captured for ringing on 31st), kingfisher (1 juvenile 31 July).
Good numbers of reed and sedge warbler present, and some now building substantial fat (indicating they are starting to move), 13 willow warbler for ringing trapped on 31 July. Siskin have bred locally, with some birds having a second brood (1st brood juveniles were captured in May and second brood juveniles in mid-July)
Small-scale westerly passage of crossbill noted on several dates in late July.

During the month local breeding has been confirmed in a wide variety of species, with the first fledged reed buntings and whitethroats (among a variety of other juvenile birds) recorded yesterday
Quiet seawatch in calm conditions. Manxie passage very distant. A few common scoter and gannet. 3+ porpoise foraging near the Mixen Buoy.

Seawatch 17:55-18:55 2 June: fulmar 3, guillemot 23, gannet 21, Manxie 47 (all west), plus grey seal. A few unidentified auks (prob GU) east. Light very good.
Seawatch 05:35-06:35 3 June: fulmar 2, guillemot 21, gannet 14, turnstone 1 (all west)

Grasshopper warbler confirmed as holding territory on the marsh this morning. A bird re-trapped that had been ringed slightly over 4 weeks ago, and now in breeding condition.
Also, fledged siskins, long-tailed tits and robins, and a cuckoo.

A seawatch from 05:45 to 06:45 this morning produced: Fulmar (44), gannet (5), Manx shearwater (4), guillemot (4), Sandwich tern (2), common scoter (1), whimbrel (2), turnstone (1), a swift and a grey seal. All birds with the exception of whimbrel, west into the wind
Grasshopper warbler and cuckoo this morning. Former seems to be holding territory.

9 whimbrel on the foreshore and at least 3 porpoise foraging offshore this morning
3 common sandpiper chasing around at Tears Point, Fall Bay, and a lesser whitethroat at Pwll Du were the highlights. Few migrants in the valleys – mainly blackcaps, whitethroats and chiffchaffs
Wheatear singing on Devil’s Truck, and linnets collecting nesting material above Fall Bay was nice. Red-legged partridge above Fall.
