GBC indoor meeting March 7th
Not a sighting, but a reminder that on Tuesday March 7th, Dr. Rob Thomas from Cardiff University is giving a talk on some of the long term monitoring projects that the University has been undertaking. Venue Kenfig NNR at 7.45pm. This talk provides some fascinating insights into the lives of some of our migratory birds.

Not a sighting, but a reminder that on Tues 7th at KNNR, Richard Smith will be giving a talk on the famous Kruger National Park in South Africa and the surrounding areas. Richard is an excellent photographer and it should be a good evening.
Glamorgan Bird Club indoor meeting

Not a sighting, but a reminder that next Tuesday (1st Nov) we’ve got an indoor meeting. Cate Barrow will be giving a presentation on Finland. Those of you that saw Cate’s last talk will know that her photos are brilliant. Everyone is welcome, so come along to Kenfig Nature Reserve Centre at 7:45 p.m.
Porthkerry Park
Yesterday while I was looking for Hornets at Porthkerry Park, I came across a Yellow-browed warbler at ST09286768. It was calling, but practically impossible to photograph.
Clydach Vale
This afternoon at the top end of Clydach Vale CP, I found a recently deceased 2nd year Gannet! – Probably blown in when it was windy a couple of weeks ago. I took some record pics of it, and a nearby Mountain Bumblebee (Bombus Monticola), which was the actually the reason why I was up there. This is the first time I’ve seen a Gannet in the Rhondda!
Grasshopper Warbler
Whilst carrying out a Marsh Fritillary survey at Thomastown nr Tonyrefail this morning, I was pleasantly surprised to hear a Grasshopper Warbler reeling from a patch of dense scrub.
Cosmeston Lakes
An unusual record of three Lesser Redpoll feeding in the carpark just before 9am, (probably the same birds seen by Ceri Jones).Even more unusual was the Redwing that sang briefly from one of the trees in the carpark. A Bittern was also seen by a birder from Manchester, who showed me a picture of it on the back of his camera.
Llantrisant Forest
There’s a few Brambling with the large Chaffinch flock at Llantrisant forest, feeding on the Beechmast opposite the entrance to the car park. No Crossbills seen (or heard

Black-necked Grebe in Cardiff bay near Penarth Marina. Also there, at least five possibly six Black Redstarts including two males.
