One Whinchat still in the buddleja east of the security fence by the harbour authority compound. Also a Spotted Flycatcher in Silurian Park off Schooner Way.

Cardiff Barrage
Two, very flighty, Whinchat in the buddleja north of the Harbour Authority compound and east of the security fence.

A seawatch from the southern end of the barrage this morning 07:20-09:15 produced at least 6 Storm Petrels past, most a long way off shore but one came inside the Outer Wrach buoy (1000m offshore) so about 800-900m away.
Also a Porpoise with a calf surfaced a few times just inside the Outer Wrach buoy.
Cardiff Bay
Pied Flycatcher in trees Britannia Park at least till 08:00. Five Common Sandpiper around Mermaid Quay earlier, flying out to east corner of wetland reserve.

Red Kite over at 09:45, drifted off to the west
Cardiff Barrage
A Black Redstart was singing intermittently from among the boulders in front of the ABP offices, it had a black breast but very brown primaries and coverts so likely a 2 cy male. On the grass by the play area there was a Yellow Wagtail (record shot below) and a small flock of 7 Dunlin flew over.

Two Garden Warblers in trees near the play area in Britannia Park, also one Sedge Warbler. Lesser Whitethroat singing from bushes beyond Dr Who building.
One Spotted Flycatcher in bushes set back on N side of Windsor Esplanade.

13 Common Sandpipers, 1 Whimbrel, 12 White Wagtails and c. 70 Swifts over the bay.
Cardiff Bay
9 Common Sandpiper on the outer rocks of the barrage with another two on the shore by the Norwegian church. Also 12 White Wagtail on the barrage.
Cardiff Bay
13 White Wagtails on the outer rocks and outer breakwater first thing. Common Tern still hawking around off Prospect Place.

7 White Wagtails on the outer rocks, a Whimbrel fly over and 10 Swift with 40 Swallows and 10 House Martins over the Bay.

The run of Yellow Wagtails continues with a fourth bird this morning – another lovely bright male.

County hall
A Lesser Whitethroat singing from bushes just to the north of county hall.
CBWR
2 cy Iceland Gull flew over heading southeast at about 07.45, no sign in the Bay so must have carried on out into the Channel.
Cardiff Barrage
The male Yellow Wagtail was indeed a cracker. There were also a few White Wagtails, with some appearing to move on through. There was also one Wheatear, a cracking male, by the play area (where it was yesterday) stuffing itself on leatherjackets.


At one point the Yellow Wag was also in view with a White.

The Wheatear was busy feeding on what looks like leatherjackets.
Cardiff barrage
At around 7.30 a surprising 6 Common Sandpipers on the outer rocks. Also 5 Wheatear and at least 6 White Wagtails in amongst 12 Pied/Whites along the barrage.
Late morning 2 Whimbrel took off from the base of the outer rocks.

3 Swift over the bay late afternoon along with c.40 Swallow, 20 House Martin and 15 Sand Martin.
Cardiff barrage
Two Redstarts (male and female) and Lesser Whitethroat singing near Dr Who exp. and a Tree Pipit fly over N at 11:45
Little Gull also still present out in the middle of the bay.
CBWR
Short-eared Owl appeared very briefly over the reserve at about 18:30 then dropped back down when harassed by gulls.
