Kenfig monthly birdwalk 16th May

Sixteen joined the monthly bird walk at Kenfig this morning, of mixed ages, birding experience and knowledge. 40 species seen, of which 2 were heard only. Allthough  a cold wind maybe  kept the birds down (no Sedge Warbler)  the highlights were close views of Swift over the Pool and its East shore, a Great Crested Grebe with 2 young in front of the South Hide,  a few good Whitethroat display flights and a Sparrowhawk soaring over the South dunes being mobbed by corvids.

Kenfig monthly walk

Sixteen went on the monthly bird walk at Kenfig on Sat 18th including a welcome new young teenager. Although the east wind meant it was a bit quiet we managed 39 species, highlight being Common Snipe, 6  Lapwing, glimpse of Blackcap, more reasonable views of Whitethroat, Swallow and Rock Pipit.

KNNR Swallows

Mix of upto 20  Swallows and Sand Martin over North shore of Kenfig Pool yesterday evening 7.45. Lively vocal pair of Gt Crested Grebe, one with fish far too big to swallow and which it released on a dive. Several singing Willow Warbler.

Monthly bird walk at Kenfig NNR 21st March

Fourteen of us were at Kenfig on Saturday 21st for the monthly bird walk. Of the 38 species seen/heard over 2 hours only (dur to the Rugby) the highlights were: good views of ground feeding Reed Bunting, singing Chiffchaff and Goldcrest, possible Marsh Tit, distant Golden Plover flock gleaming in the sunshine, displaying Common Buzzard, Lapwing flock drifting over the Pool and oomparing Goldeneye with Tufted Duck.  Good to be joined by  a birder new to the reserve and to welcome back a couple of others.
