Whitchurch

Impressive starling murmuration over Whitchurch from 16:00 onwards. Minimum of 3000 birds but probably nearer 5000 as it was splitting, rejoining and disappearing behind buildings with more birds coming in all the time.

Last night (Monday 24th July) 21:50 – 22:30

Nightjars – churring and wing clapping heard from 2 different locations, 3 birds in total.

Also Grasshopper Warbler reeling and observed.

Nightjar – churring hear at 21:05; 1 observed at 21:15 was also wing clapping. Soon after, that one (presumably) together with a second bird flew into view.

The Knap/Barry Dock/Cosmeston

Ogmore area

The Watermill. Goshawk – 1 had a go at a buzzard, a few hundred hirundines (mainly swallows) over river.

Portobello Island. Canada geese – 400, Little Egret – 2, Peregrine – 1.

Close views of 2 Nightjars circling around me last night at about 22:00. Male wing clapping and churring from nearby tree. Third bird also suspected.

Minimum of 10 Hawfinches at 10:50. Observed off and on for the next 30 minutes or so near white house at top of trail.

Unsurprisingly, no sign of recently dead Polecat I found there yesterday.
