Southerndown & Ogmore Estuary

On November 18, 2014 By The Tall TwitcherIn SightingsLeave a comment

Male Snow Bunting at ST8770873774, right on the cliff edge. Also Unid bird, Pipit like but with pure jet white throat patch, unfortunately only seen for one second and couldn’t refind as too close to the edge for safety.

At Ogmore Estuary, seven Goldeneye, four Brent Geese, three Turnstone, two Redshank and a Bar-tailed Godwit.

Pontypridd Town Centre

On November 6, 2014 By The Tall TwitcherIn SightingsLeave a comment

A “V” formation of six Swans flew east over Pontypridd Town Centre at eight o’clock this morning. I didn’t have any optics with me at the time but the shortness of neck and general size gave me the impression that they may well have been Bewick’s.

Heritage Coast

On October 4, 2014 By The Tall TwitcherIn SightingsLeave a comment

Great to see a party of eight Chough on the Heritage Coast this afternoon. Sadly it was the first Saturday list for many months without a single Swallow seen, not even a late straggler today.

Porthcawl 0700-0840

On August 29, 2014 By The Tall TwitcherIn SightingsLeave a comment

Rather quieter than hoped for. A couple of Commics, a few Manxies and Fulmars all d/c and a juvenile Kittiwake doing a very good impression of a Sabine’s were the only things of note.

Parc Slip New Scrapes

Not a great deal around today but the highlights were single Green Sandpiper and a single Greenshank from the new elevated hide.

Kenfig NNR

Lesser Whitethroat heard on the footpath down to the pool at nine o’clock this morning. Numerous Swallow over the pool, lots of Willow Warbler and Blackcap in the scrub. No sign of GWT or Garganey at the rivermouth.

Newton Point & Ogmore-by-Sea

On March 4, 2014 By The Tall TwitcherIn SightingsLeave a comment

An early morning high tide visit to Newton point this morning produced 5 Grey Plover, 4 Sanderling, and a couple of dozen of both Dunlin and Ringed Plover.

At Ogmore-by-Sea there were seven Purple Sandpipers on the rocks just inside the wooden gate.

Portobello

On February 22, 2014 By The Tall TwitcherIn SightingsLeave a comment

Quiet morning on the Estuary. Best of the bunch were 37 Goldeneye, a lonely Greylag amongst the Canadas and a group of 12 Redshank together on the far bank.

Newton Point, Porthcawl

On January 11, 2014 By The Tall TwitcherIn SightingsLeave a comment

A Guillemot close-in at the Point Car Park was a surprise in an otherwise quiet morning at Newton Point. No luck with any unusual waders or gulls.

Leach’s Petrel, Porthcawl

On September 17, 2013 By The Tall TwitcherIn Sightings2 Comments

Single Leach’s Petrel close in at Porthcawl at 08:11 going west. Other birds include eight Gannet down channel and a RT Diver up channel.

Sabine’s Gull – Porthcawl

On September 16, 2013September 16, 2013 By The Tall TwitcherIn SightingsLeave a comment

Juvenile Sabine’s Gull, off Porthcawl, heading west, down channel at 07:10. Steady flow of birds all going down channel from first light for first hour, including a dozen or so of Gannet and Manxies. Several groups of Common Scoter, one of which contained ten birds, all but one being male. Later a juvenile Kittiwake flying closer in just offshore.

Watermill Flood – Ruff

On September 4, 2013 By The Tall TwitcherIn SightingsLeave a comment

Juvenile Ruff still present at 07:00 this morning, seen feeding on the main flood, viewable from the pub car park. A personal milestone bird for me, being my 200th confirmed species for “Eastern Glamorgan”.
