A couple of pics taken today. Green-veined White female and a very smart Hoverfly

Yellow-legged Gull adult Blackcap Singing Sand Martin 20 also; Small Red-eyed Damselfly 6 Common Blue Damselfly  lots Emperor female ovipositing.

A nice surprise on a rare summer visit to the lake were three Common Sandpiper on the east side of the island. Mute Swan 82 Lesser B/B Gull 40 one ringed G+X a regular here. Also: Banded Demoiselle  2 Emperor 8 Common Blue Damselfly lots and Black-tailed Skimmer 3 and Holly Blue Butterfly.

 

A coot has built a nest on floating expanded-polystyrene in the bay

And a Raven has a nest in the gantry of a crane.

Wheatear a male on the ramparts.

There were several Sand Martins collecting nesting material. Lesser Black-backed Gull with a deformed beak.  White Wagtail 2 Blackcap 1 Willow Warbler 1  The Shelduck surprisingly remains here although it can fly.

Scaup 1 Tufted Duck 230+ Little Grebe 12  Lapwing  42 Goosander 2 Redwing 6 Fieldfare 40  lots of  usual gull, One very strange looking bird view from across the bay, probably a  lucistic Lesser B/B Gull. A lot of vegetation has recently been cut down which is a pity as it was good for migrants.

Mixed flock in stubble field Yellowhammer circa 30 Reed Bunting 25 Linnet 40 also Meadow Pipit 4 Chaffinch 6 at Portabello Island one adult Mediterranean Gull and a Curlew.

 

In a stubble field  Southerndown: Yellowhammer 16 (sixteen) Reed Bunting 25 Linnet 54 Chaffinch  6. On the coastal path Chough 5. Ogmore est. Goldeneye 17 with males displaying  Goosander 1 Mediterranean Gull 2 ads. Red Kite 1 Watermill: Grey Heron 6 Little Egret 1 Teal 10   Peregrine caught a pigeon.

 

 

Goosander 17 highest number we have recorded there.
