Ogmore

Arrived at Portobello at about 6.15pm though the garganey are now up past the water works as was kindly pointed out by a couple of other birders. They were flying around regularly, and one of their loops came very close from our vantage point by the bridge, but only had a few seconds to get a couple of photos in.

Parc Slip and Ogmore

13 lapwing at Parc Slip was great to see this morning, and with the sun out and a few skylark singing it was feeling very Spring-like. The bittern wasn’t on show from the hide this visit, though four lesser redpoll were along the hedges heading back to the car park. At Ogmore there were 8 purple sandpiper and several turnstone on the rocks, being buffeted by surprisingly large waves at times for a fairly calm day. At the Watermill Pub there were 50+ Curlew in the field, good to see them in that sort of number.

Ogmore

Huge swell coming in on this morning’s high tide, which was as big as I can ever remember here.
Seven Purple Sandpipers were having to take evasive action, being pushed up onto the grass at times. Stopped briefly at Portobello, where 31 Goldeneye noted.
