On Wednesday evening, flock of around 20 Ringed Plover, with at least one dunlin and one sanderling. Waders are not my strong point, so could be more interesting stuff there, if anyone cares to look!

Hi Elaine {I assume it is you Elaine?}. The Heliport Bay is pretty regularly watched by a couple of local birders. Ringed Plover and Turnstone are regulars there at high tide, plus Curlew, Oyc and Whimbrel on passage occasionally. Sanderling are pretty scarce this end of the channel [mainly because there’s not much, if any, of their preferred sandy shoreline habitat]. Was it a classic winter plumage Sanderling? i.e. blacc bill & legs, greyish upper parts and black mark by the corner of the folded wing?
BTW it would be useful if you could go in to you settings and make your Public Display name your proper name. Best regards. John
Hi John,
Think my display name should be correct now! I judged it to be a sanderling from the jizz mostly, small and busy with the right colouring, but it could have been a knot on the turn from summer plumage, as it had a reddish underside / neck. Dunlin was easy to ID due to black belly. I will try going back to get a record shot over the weekend, though I guess they could be long gone!
The usual curlew, shelduck & oystercatchers were present as well.
Thanks for yr reply Elaine.
