Lavernock

For a while, thought it was going to be a bird-less session! At Lavernock Wildlife Trust reserve [thanks to Nigel Ajax-Lewis for correcting me on this one] , a Silver Y moth and 1 Painted Lady, 1 Green ‘Pecker, 1 Jay, a Heron and 2 Oycs in St Mary’s Well Bay. At Lavernock Pt coastal path a feeding flock consisting of c.20 Blue Tit, a few Gt Tit, 4 Chiffchaff, 6 Long-t Tit, an imm Goldcrest and a Garden Warbler.

  1. I have been meaning to make this comment for some time, Lavernock is not a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) which is a very specific legal designation under the Countryside Act 1968, although it is part of the Penarth Coast SSSI.

    Lavernock is a Wildlife Trust nature reserve and has been since 1968, and it might be of interest to club members that the first Trust nature reserve warden between 1968-1975 was Col. Morrey Salmon who was also a Vice President of the Trust.

    Thanks Nigel. I was aware of that and indeed my own personal database has it down as Lavernock WT Reserve! Sheer laziness on my part in that it’s easy to just call everything an LNR. As it’s my post I’ll edit it and correct the reference. Thanks for pointing that out.
