Good to see you too Rob, back where you belong INSIDE the perimeter of Llanishen / Lisvane! Were there any other wilfdfowl, waterbirds, waders, gulls inside the Llanishen Res? Since I was denied access (hopefully temporarily until I can contact the new owners) to do my WeBS, I wasn’t able to do a count. Any info gratefully received.

Hi Dan, you can look across Llanishen from the Black Oak Road side (via the footpath that runs between Black Oak Road and the outer fence, at the NE view of the res). The view is pretty dismal, through 2 layers of steel fencing, and through a lot of scrub. The south pool is partly visible in the distance but the central pools are currently completely out of view -though this may improve as the vegetation dies back over the winter. As a result, these counts are the absolute minimum, relying on the birds swimming across gaps in the vegetation! All totally unnecessary of course -not least because there is a constant parade of dog-walkers within the restricted areas. Let’s hope that one day soon there will be a proper access arrangement for both reservoirs. Meanwhile, Dr Kerry Murton of NRW would be the person to liaise with Celsa for better access for the WeBS counts.

Thanks Rob – and great to see you. I’ve been in touch with Kerry and I’ve now got a contact at Celsa. I’ll let you know how I get on.
