0800-1100. A busy morning. Best of the lot was a cracking Wood Warbler in amongst a small flock of Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs. Also: Tree Pipit (8+); Redstart (4+); Spotted Flycatcher (1) and Swift (4). Supporting cast of plenty of Blackcaps and Whitethroats.
Nearby at Forest Farm/Glamorgan Canal: Reed Warblers still from Llyn Brwynog hide and a Spotted Flycatcher near the canal. (DJJ/GJJ)
Could you tell me a grid reference for “Radyr Floodplain”? It sounds like there are some good birds passing through, but I don’t know where it is! Thanks 🙂
Hi Elaine, The central grid reference is ST140802. You can access the ‘floodplain’ – a name we made up because the site didn’t have a name . . . it’s nr Radyr and part of it is a floodplain! – from two points: from the south walk across the railway bridge footpath at Melin Griffith (ST140798). The northern access point is very near Radyr train station or the the footbridge over the Taff at Forest Farm (ST135804). From there walk east along a road towards Radyr Cricket Club. Walk past the club house and through a metal gate and you’re on the ‘floodplain. Hope to see you there soon! Dan
Excellent, thanks!
