Cosmeston

Well in my defence, we were looking for birds when this thing swam past.

I am assuming it was an otter as it was well over a metre long …but confused over the ‘pink’ nose. Looking at pics on the internet, some otters do have pink noses – but they look very young. This one seemed to be big. Great to see an otter here again (I did see one in the same place last year – under the bridge between east and west lakes).

Also a cracking first winter YLG on the posts in the west lake hunting for frogs.

  1. I think you have a mink there Andy-fluffy tail and pinky pointed face.Otter also usually has head above water then a section submerged then back end emerges so it looks like it is swimming in 2 sections.

My first thought when I saw it was Mink – The head looks too small for an Otter.
I have seen a Mink before at Cosmeston, but a long time ago. It’s not a vey welcome visitor!

Thanks guys. I did think “mink” but it just seemed too long. It was a well over a metre long. The fluffy tail worried me as well. Thanks for the help.
