Sully beach and Cosmeston

On Sully beach this afternoon (about 2 hours after high tide) 19 Curlew (switching to/from the playing fields when disturbed by walkers), 21 Oystercatcher, 3 Turnstone, 1 Dunlin, 3 Grey Plover and a Grey Wagtail.

This morning at Cosmeston, after the deluge, a Marsh Tit was with Blue and Great Tits and a Nuthatch roughly halfway through Cogan Wood. There were Pochard, Gadwall and 2 drake Teal on the West Lake, and a Green Woodpecker was feeding in the West Paddock.

  1. Hi, I’m after a bit of guidance on finding the Green Woodpeckers from yourself or anyone on here as I seen it come up a lot on here. Where and what time exactly do you go to see these? We’re afraid we get to the W paddock too late in the day when all the dog walkers have disrupted the area. This may not be the case though

      Hi Matt
Time of day is not really significant. I often see them whilst walking my dog and birding at the same time. They are certainly not guaranteed but often I see one, or sometimes two, feeding on the ground along the edges of W paddock, which is the late paddock through the kissing gate just beyond the far end of West Lake. I have also see them in East Paddock which is the large field that stretches behind the children play area.. More often heard than seen. There’s a dead tree on the left just beyond the dragonfly pond, which is occasionally a favoured perching tree. Cheers, John Wilson
