It’s the meadow by the Ely in Fairwater, between the river and the railway. Cardiff Council calls the area Ely Wells. I’m sure I’ve heard it called Birdies Field as well (it’s accessed from Birdies Lane). It may well have another name! ST136769
Yes, a nice spot with regular kingfishers and dippers and warblers in the summer. I spoke to a local fisherman today who said that he’d been going there for 50 years and always called it ‘Horses Field’.
yep us locals called it the horses field , birdies lane runs between ely over the river to fairwater ,under the main railway line, the field was used for school sports days and it was our rugby pitch when I was a nipper in Herbert Thompson junior school which is sited over the pipe at the top of the bank , I was born there and I still live here ..
Could you tell me where exactly is this location please.
