Hi Gareth – its a bit tricky as the light makes the second photo look as though there is substantial green fringing to the primaries almost reminiscent of Bonelli’s Warbler. From personal experience that could indicate this bird may be fulvecens rather than tristis. However, the first photo appears to show tristis features with jet black bill and legs very noticeable. Light is so subjective with these birds, but either way, in my opinion its a Siberian Chiffchaff !!
Very nice shot, lovely little birds, looks like tristris to me. I have seen many of these in Egypt in winter the dark eye stripe is also a feature. The angle and light always changes the appearance of birds as Neil suggests. Mike.
