Highlights: Two Black-necked Grebes were briefly at Lisvane Reservoir (5th). Storm Petrel sightings comprised one from St Mary’s Well Bay and three off Sully. A Little Egret at Ogmore Estuary was the only one reported locally. A Marsh Harrier was at Rumney Great Wharf. Hobbies were noted at Merthyr Mawr and Kenfig. Four Black-tailed Godwits and a Greenshank were in the vanguard of return wader movement at Ogmore Estuary. A Little Ringed Plover called in at Kenfig. A Yellow-legged Gull was at Cardiff Bay. A pair of Choughs raised four young on the Heritage Coast. Hawfinches bred in Bridgend for the second successive year, while flyovers were logged at Lisvane Reservoir (two) and Craig Llanishen (three). Crossbills were widely distributed, most notably a passage of 352 counted over two consecutive mornings at Lavernock. Summary by Paul Roberts
