GBC Trip Goldcliff

Rather quiet – of note were Redstart, Yellow Wagtail(3), Ruff, Greenshank(4), Common Sand (2), Whimbrel and LRP(4) plus good numbers of Avocet and Black-tailed Godwits. Also seen several Clouded Yellow butterflies and a Stoat. Bumped into a couple who had seen Hobby, Little Owl and Marsh Harrier.

Mynydd Meio

Not many birds around. Highlight was f/o Stock Dove, which is very uncommon round these parts. Also Linnet, Whitethroat, Willow Warbler, Jay, Buzzard and Magpie. 13 sp. of butterfly noted with loads of Gatekeepers, Skippers and Common Blues on the wing. Nice to see singles of Grayling, Holly Blue and Brimstone.

GBC Newsletter

Apologies for non-sightings post but I’m just about to put the summer edition of the GBC newsletter to bed. However I’d like a couple more photos. (ideally taken in Glamorgan) If there are any photographers out there who could contribute please get in touch.

Llanwonno

Just a quick reminder that there is a GBC trip to Llanwonno this Wednesday (11th June), hoping to see Nightjars. Meet outside the Brynfynnon Arms (ST033956) at 8.30 p.m.  Torch and insect repellent recommended.

Rudry Common

Luckily the scramble bikers left just as I arrived. A productive walk round the Common. Saw my first Cuckoo of the year plus Tree Pipit (3), Redstart (1), Willow Warbler (9), Chiffchaff (1), Blackcap (2), Swallow (1), Skylark (2), Linnet (5) plus the regulars.

Kenfig

Lesser Whitethroat near the main path down to the pool, 2 Common Sandpipers on the east shore, several Swallows over. There were plenty of Willow Warblers, Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps singing. (At one point I saw Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and Blackcap all singing from the same branch). A chap I met also saw Common Whitethroat. Also Peacock. Small Tortoiseshell, Speckled Wood and a White sp seen.
