Upper loughor

family group of LR plover with. 2 juvs. 3 common sand with 2 common sand by Loughor bridge. 26 med gull loafing on the upper Loughor, 10 ads, 12 3rd c/y and 4 2nd c/y ,,,,,not seen them here before.

32 pied wagtail with plenty of juvs , approx 35 mixed hitundines all enjoying the insects from the sheep dung on the marsh

Really good selection of waders on the rising tide earlier, mostly in their finest garb.

87 Dunlin, 22 Grey plover, 19 Knot, 18 Oyc, 23 black-wit, 6 whimbrel , 2 sanderling .

some of the grey plover were stunning, don’t often see them in full breeding plumage, likewise the knot. Dublin not too shabby also!


fem snow bunting was along the edge of the dunes by the fenced-off lapwing area.

at least 64 grey plover, may have been an extra 52 which were on the sands at start of the walk, but not sure of duplication. around 75 curlew, 120+ dunlin, 64 ringed plover, 12 sanderling, 38 eider.

good numbers of birds on the Vile this morning.

prob 7 Lapland bunting. One group of 5 flushed a view times. Only brief views on the ground, very difficult to photo. Other singles heard flying around.

around 90 to 100 skylark. Favouring the stubble fields that the sheep are in.

18 to 20 reed bunting, 4 yellowhammer, 15 to 20 meadow pipit.

1000+ starling and 500+ jackdaw / carrion crow.

25+ chaffinch. Only raptors seen were 2 peregrine


fem\imm  black redstart on the National Trust roof, good numbers of birds in the vile, 60+ skylark, 50+ linnet, 10+ reed bunting, several hundred starling and jackdaw, 15+ meadow pipit, plenty of dunnock,robin,wren.

50+ chaffinch moving west in small groups from Overton, 12 blackbird,10  song thrush, 20+ redwing. 7 yellowhammer at Overtondsc_0275dsc_0292


6 woodlark flew across the valley and seemed to drop down by the trees/field by the farm. They were calling a few times , which is what drew my attention to them. I didn’t manage to re-find them. Ed Hunter picked up a YB warbler , I heard a second calling close by. A couple of Brambling, 3 swallow,1 yellowhammer, 12 blackbird, 8 song thrush, 4 blackcap.

between pilton green to foxhole slide, good numbers of skylark moving up the coast from Rhosilli direction, plenty of stubble fields around here which they were dropping into. 250 plus, 8 yellowhammer seen together.


at least 6 YB warbler ( 3 in valley, 3 at Middleton lane ) .

Firecrest at Middleton, prob. Ring Ouzel seen flying off as I got into Mewslade valley.

1 YB warbler over the way from my house in Gorseinon, 1 late comm whitethroat nearby , also in Gorseinon.


dsc_0161dsc_01592 Lapland buntings . 1 out , just past the mound with the meadow pipits, the other, on the  way back alongside the track. approx. 80+ linnet , 40 + meadow pipit, 14 skylark, 6 wheatear. waders still too far out.

earlier this week, Otter with flounder for breakie south of Loughor bridge Wed am plus Juv Osprey heading south .

On the negative, dead Manx shearwater on the Penclawdd road, must have blown in and hit a vehicle…couldn’t let such a great pelagic bird end up 2D on the road, so , sent it to Davy Jones’s locker off Pont y Cob bridge.p.s ……after looking at most of the photos, a lot not good. 2 of the most confiding bird, first bird heard calling not long before seeing this one
