Only a trickle of movement over Canton/Leckwith this morning with just 760 ssw in fifteen minutes.
Wood Pigeon movement
The usual autumn movement: c17,000 moving SSW over Canton/Leckwith in two hours with birds still moving after 10am.

Cwrt yr ala Lane, I Stonechat. c.100 Canada Geese overhead.

Ahead of the cloud bank and rain early this evening, 20 Swallows drifting low, eastwards along the Ely River , Canton.
Pied Wagtail
up to 200, in small groups every evening over Canton moving to roost.

Canton:one juvenile on telephone wire early a.m. and c100 (50/50 adult and juvs) hawking insects low over Canton/River Ely basin 5.40pm-6pm before drifting off sse.
Redwing
groups of 15 and 5 over Penarth this morning.

Cetti’s Warbler singing again. Single Chiffchaff, 25 Carrion Crow.
Previous sighting on 4th October-Canton, Redpoll- should read 8 Siskin flying north.

Late posting this: 2 Redwings flying low, north over Canton (garden) on 2nd October at 8.15 am.

Scores of Swallows at Cosmeston 6.30pm yesterday; Cetti’s Warbler singing briefly Grangemoor Park this morning.

c 100 House Martins and a single Swift slowly drifting eastwards this evening.

c 30 Swifts early this morning. One Willow Warbler singing briefly Ely Trail.

Two Whitethroats continue to hold territory and another singing just outside the boundary.
First returning Blackheaded Gull on floodwater.
Leckwith Road Drainage Ponds
One Reed Warbler singing. Moorhen present.
Sanatorium Park/Ely Trail
Cetti’s Warbler singing on southern edge of park…first time I’ve heard one this far up river and a first for what is the Canton locality!
Grangemoor Park/Sanatorium Park
Grangemoor Park- single Lesser Whitethroat, Cetti’s Warbler and Reed Warbler singing.
Sanatorium Park- two regular Whitethroats (one nearer the new school) where numbers have been reducing over the years.
