I’m pretty sure I saw, and heard, a black redstart on Locks Common Porthcawl, yesterday. I will keep a look out and try to get a photo.
Last Friday, saw a small flock (6?) of yellowhammers, male and female, on the edge of weodland.
Male Merlin on rocky foreshore on Locks Common.
Went to look for the Flamingo without success – but saw this Barn Owl hunting near the Lifeguard Station at Rest Bay – never seen one there before.
Lots of Fieldfares and Redwings on the common at Porthcawl – also Lapwings on the beach.
Apparently, a Flamingo has been seen in Porthcawl! Presumably from Penclacwydd?
Several times recently, including today, I have seen no less than 9 buzzards together on a field near Merthyr Mawr. The field is down to Oilseed Rape, but rabbits have taken much of the crop , leaving several acres of bare earth. There are many worm casts on the soil surface, and I assume that the buzzards are after worms – the birds are spread out across the field. Several of them are immature, so presumably a family group (or several families?) A few weeks ago there was a Merlin on the field, presumably doing the same thing.
On the river near Ogmore by Sea, a male goosander, plus curlew, oystercatchers and shelduck.
Saw my first ever Merlin yesterday near Sker House. Sitting on fence posts and then flying low over the shore.
