A very productive 1/2 hour at high tide in the drizzle without leaving the road!
Brent goose db 1, purple sandpiper 9, sanderling 79, ringed plover 49, grey plover 6, turnstone 16, oystercatcher 22, dunlin 17 (probably more but counted after being disturbed) black-headed gull 38 and a med gull.
Ogmore 2 white-fronted geese opposite Ogmore Castle with the Canada geese.
Kenfig Pool 2 white-fronted geese with the Canada geese on the water and subsequently on the fields. 1 short eared owl on the golf course seen four times. A dog walker had seen 2 together.
Are there 4 white-fronted geese locally or are the 2 very mobile I wonder.
3 purple sandpipers, 49 ringed plovers, 7 turnstone and an adult med gull at high tide this afternoon.
2 slav grebes near south hide at 1pm
3 hawfinch feeding high I the tree tops. A lifer for me. I had no idea where Forest Ganol was but after reading Alan Cripps posting yesterday I checked it out in ‘Birding in Glamorgan’. A brilliant little book.
Arctic skua (dark phase) down channel this afternoon.

The Watermill this afternoon had only 2 birds. A green sandpiper and a grey heron. Portobello was quiet an adult med gull and 2 common sandpiper being the only birds of note.
2 whinchat were a treat lunchtime today
There was a black tailed godwit, 10 goosander and 4 common sandpiper on the river at Portobello with 8 greylags.
A redstart was on the green lane from Ogmore to Norton Farm
In Pant Norton there was a lesser whitethroat, 4 common whitethroat good numbers of willow warbler and 2 chiff chaff
2 nightjars at 21.25. They were hunting within 20 metres of my location for a minute or two then moved off and churring started.
Whimbrel 1, common sandpiper 8, redshank 2, and little egret of note. The goosander family still present.
Not a bird sighting but this morning there was a pod of 10/12 common dolphin 3 1/2 miles out from Porthcawl heading east. I picked them up with my telescope and counted 3 plus a juvenile. I telephoned the skipper of a local fishing boat who was in the area and he was able to confirm that they were common and not bottlenose and that the count was 10/12.
Greenshank on Portobello Island this morning but disturbed by 2 canoes.

There was a good selection of waders on Newton Point at high tide this afternoon until a dog walker arrived.
Purple sandpiper 2, grey plover 9, ringed plover 50, turnstone 21, sanderling 4, oystercatcher 2, and about 50 dunlin (they flew before I counted). A sparrowhawk was also investigating the flock.
