A kittiwake was feeding on discarded bait from the boat while fishing in the bay. A diver species flew up channel.

11.00 to 13.00 Jay 5, only 2 chough, peregrine, 2 ravens, and 3 clouded yellow. The highlight was a juvenile hobby sitting on a telegraph pole on the way back to Bridgend.

Greenshank 2, common sandpiper 3, yellow wagtail 1, and little egret 1 were the birds of note this morning.

While doing a cetacean survey from Stenna Europe we had good birding but poor cetaceans. The highlight was a great shearwater (with grainy but convincing photo). Other birds were a black guillemot in Fishguard Harbour, about 4 great skuas, 1 arctic skua and a hooded crow in Rosslare.

A chiff chaff was in my garden at lunchtime. Jackdaws nesting in two chimneys and a blackbird on eggs in the Bay Tree.

O O C Rosslare Harbour

I did a cetacean survey on Stenna Europe and at 9.00 am this morning there were no black guillemots visible in Rosslare Harbour. Normally at this time of year we would expect a double figure count. Casualties of the storms?

Goldeneye 35, curlew about 40 but disturbed before I could count them, goosander 5 and little egret 1 were the birds of note this afternoon.

Very quiet between Nash Point and Cwm Nash the only birds of note were 2 raven giving an aerial ballet and a few fulmar. There was a lesser tortoiseshell basking on a rock by the stream.

This morning before the Boxing Day crowds descended on the river.

Gadwall 8, turnstone 1, little grebe 7, goldeneye 13, goosander 2, redshank 10 and a little egret.

12 little grebe, 3 turnstone, 5 gadwall, 1 shellduck, 5 goosander and 1 little egret  were of note this morning together with 1 water pipit on the lower estuary

There was a purple sandpiper on the usual rocks this morning together with one turnstone and 2 oystercatchers.
4 little grebe were the highlights near Ploran Mawr and 3 chough on Southerndown cliffs.
