Here’s a quick picture of the Dunlin roost this morning…

noticed a significant reduction in bh gull numbers this morning. Been replaced by lbb’s.. No small waders again..and 4 oycs.. It’s extremely quiet on a beautiful sunny morning

Couldn’t find any med gulls.. probably all gone now until September

3 Harbour porpoise in the tide race

usual suspects, gadwall,teal,mallard,shoveller,mute swans, little grebes, moorhens.. But unexpectedly a male tufted duck.. Also one female stonechat fussing behind the hide

Quiet on the pond this morning.. Few wildfowl (mallard & Teal).. 6 mute swans, 6 little grebe, singing cettis & water rail ( if you can call that singing)

Highlight was the passage through of a ring tailed hen harrier scattering snipe everywhere.

High tide roost: 75+ turnstone, 15 redshank, 1 purple sandpiper… Female eider  & great crested grebe offshore..

Wildfowl numbers starting to build.. Shoveller, teal, mallard, gadwall, 1 female pintail, widgeon…… little grebes, grey heron, cormorant, moorhens, squealing water rail, cettis, snipe (possible jack),

And

No more sightings  of the bittern reported last week….

nice flock of 30+ juvenile common scoter viewed in Swansea bay this morning

good vis mig.. Greenfinches,chaffinches,mipits,wood Pidgeon’s… 2 late swallows.. Sprawk.. Few crests. House sparrows..

Biggest number of gulls I’ve ever seen here on the water tonite. Must be close to 1000 birds.. Mixed block of herring,lbb,gbb,med,bh… Too many to scan in the disappearing light.. There must be a rarity here somewhere 😎

1 great crested grebe in winter plumage fishing close in… 2 juvenile ravens in the car park. (maybe this years youngsters from the breeding birds on the Lighthouse Island)

2 chough were a first at this location for me

Sparrowhawk, 2 bullfinch, 2 chiffchaffs, small mixed tit flock (unfortunately no crests or ybw’s), Nice numbers of chaffinch,

And good numbers of Med gulls in the car park as normal

no med gulls at all which was a surprise.. Only a few bh’s & a herring gull.. Highlight was a stooping peregrine onto the bh’s.. Missed by a feather thickness.. That’s a first for me.. Seen them take large waders but never a gull

sea watch high tide.. Usual suspects.. Fulmars,kittiwakes,gannets including some very young birds,manxies med gulls,… And a very large grey seal almost hauled out on the shingle beach

And has returned yearly to Swansea to over-winter since then

Watched pair of recently fledged birds flying with one of the parents this afternoon.. Fabulous close up views of these stunning birds…

unbelievably quiet this morning.. 1 very white chested juvenile cormorant, 1 adult plumaged med gull (first I’ve seen for 2 months), 6 herring gulls of various ages..

visited the pier this morning to see what was happening. What’s left of the wooden ledges are packed with nests.. Very few birds have moved to the new lifeboat superstructure..what’s left of the temporary shelving wont last another winter.. Will be a real shame if we lose these birds
