Honey Buzzard Talk

Hello,

Sorry for the non-sighting post, but I thought that some people may be interested in attending this year’s Unknown Wales Conference, held in the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff. Stephen Roberts will be presenting a talk about Honey Buzzards.

The date this year is Saturday 28th October.

It should be a very interesting day- along side Stephen’s talks, there are talks about marine life, rivers, seagrass meadows, natterjack toads and polychaete worms. More details, the programme and booking form are online here https://www.welshwildlife.org/unknown-wales/conferences/unknown-wales-2017/

All the best,

Rose

Pennard Golf Course

This afternoon, two brief views of a bird as it flew away from me – 90% sure it was a Black Redstart, dark back, red tail, but I got no view of the front of the bird.
It was initially seen on the upper path that runs from Bendrick Drive to Pobbles, just before the gorse ends and the path skims the edge of the golf course (google maps gives me 51.571121, -4.100496).

Male Nightjar churring at replanted clearfell area adjacent to Llanbradach slag heaps on 19th. Closely followed by the same male flying past just above head height and a distance of approx 20 feet.  On the 17th at the same site – lots of churring heard, plus a  pair seen in flight together with wing clapping taking place.  Churring also heard here on 15th.

Neither of us have recorded Nightjar at this site before.
