Singleton Park, Swansea
Tawny Owls have bred in the park for (at least) the second successive year: heard and saw an adult and youngster as I was walking home this evening.
Rudry common revisited!
Ditto John’s post-I was only bemoaning the loss of whinchat on the common a couple of days ago-I think it is 2 years since i have seen one here . This evening a pair of cuckoo and two wheatear on the rocky outcrop on top of the mountain nearly made up for missing the chat!
Great Spotted Woodpecker/St Fagans

Sadly couldn’t find Tim’s Whinchat of y’day. A Wheatear was on top of the mountain, and other than that, Skylark, Tree Pipit a family of Stonechats, Willow Warbler, a few Whitethroat, and 2 Garden Warblers, open heard in brief song, and another singing and seen briefly as I walked back along the lower, middle path. Also a few Swallow and a single Swift over.

c.40 Swift over the bay at 10am.
Cardiff Bay
The highlight from a walk along John Bachelor Way this lunchtime was a beautiful summer plumage Dunlin. Not a bird I see often in this location. Also present were the usual Turnstones (in varying degrees of plumage, including one in full breeding colours), and lots of very active House Martins.
Tutt Head
An hour of seawatching from the Tutt at dawn resulted in 14 whimbrel (west), 7 gannet and 2 fulmar.

Lesser Whitethroat/Grangemoor Park
One singing..also Reed Warblers now regular a little further up-river.
Cosmeston

Garganey pair still at Cosmeston this morning. Moved to other side of West Lake. You need to look very carefully at the base of the reeds unless of course they appear like this!
Lavernock WT reserve
Common & Lesser Whitethroat, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Orange Tip, Holly Blue, Speckled Wood, Green-veined White and a few Swallows. Also the remains of 12 packs of Peroni, Heiniken & Carling including all the cans. These people can be bothered to carry it there but not back, when it’s a fraction of the weight.
Garganey pair apparently still at Cossie.
