2 bullfinch, a goldcrest and a raven of note on a pleasant walk. However the main reason for the post was a new fence and gate at the corner of Pant Quarry and the removal and chipping of well over an acre of gorse. Preparations for another quarry extension?
That’s a bit concerning, I thought they had reached their maximum permitted reach with the last extension?
On a more positive note, Hanson, the owners of the adjacent Lithalun Quarry, are going to start a programme of rotational gorse management this coming January, with a view to benefitting breeding birds. I will post an update in time.
The fence goes from Pant Quarry to Lithalun. Could this work be gorse management?
No, the management is going to stay within the current fence line, along the existing bund. Must get up and have a look, no idea what is going on there.
