I’m checking on the grid ref; interestingly amongst the sites mentioned in the paper is Coed Bychan, a site that I have surveyed since 1967 and will complete my 50th year since I started, in 2017! I’m only mentioning this because I wondered whether you are a member of the Council assisting in the gathering of info for such sites.
Hi Dan, I might have put my own geographical name to these ditches! They are the ones that run parallel to Leckwith Road and within the boundary of the Athletics Stadium. They are in my BBS square but I have never managed to see or hear Reed Warblers on count days!
Thanks Steve. No, I’m not from the Council but I remember coming across the name of the ditch a while ago. On old maps (like this one http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/maps/sheet/bc_reports_1832_v4/Glamorganshire_Llandaff) there’s a stream in roughly the same area that marked the boundary between Llandaf parish (specifically Canton Common) and Leckwith parish. It used to run through the current site of the athletics stadium, but was at some point straightened and transformed into Canton Common Ditch. Preumably the old stream had a different name, but I don’t know what it was.
