Unusual sighting this morning. A male Reed Bunting was feeding in my garden. I have seen one occasionally in winter. The fact that I saw a female a couple of weeks ago might indicate breeding. There doesn’t appear to be suitable habitat nearby though.
Hi, I saw one up near the Caerphilly mtn summit a couple of weeks back – i wasn’t expecting it up there
Great garden sighting at this time of year. I think our idea of ‘suitable habitat’ for this species is overly influenced by the name. I have seen pairs on my BBS well away from reeds, in areas used by eg Meadow Pipits and Linnets. Perhaps they can similarly use bracken, gorse and long rough grass.
