Seen in her Killay garden yesterday (25th), Blackcap female, feeding at length on fat balls, later joined by a male.

22 mute swan 30 coot 48 Canada geese 10+tufteds 12 Pochards 4 grey lags at the nearby amenites tip were 26 magpies 

at swansea vale behind axis court were 9 Canada geese 11 mallards 2 moorhen and 2 jays 

At Forest Ganol this morning,at least 25 Hawfinch seen from main track and top road including flock of 17.

Black-necked Grebe still at Cardiff Bay off Windsor Quay just south of river bridge.

Newton Rocks/Trecco Bay – 1 Brent Goose (Light-bellied), 6 Redshanks, 3 Grey Plover, c.30 Ringed Plover with 1 Sanderling and 10 Dunlin.

Porthcawl seafront between Hutchwns Pt and Irongate Pt – 1 Purple Sandpiper, 10 Turnstone, 1 ad Med Gull.

Two Brent Geese present this afternoon at Ogmore – the Dark-bellied still on its lonesome on the lower estuary and a Pale-bellied with the Canada Goose flock. No chance of checking the rings on the Dark-bellied in the horrendous weather conditions, but I have heard it is one of seven birds equipped with a logger by a Dutch scheme. 

2 peregrine, 1 fulmar, 1 kestrel, 15 golden plover that flew over the fields towards wick, stonechat, linnet, raven and oyster’s on the beach.

Firecrest at Overton Sewage Treatment Works. With approx. 10 goldcrest, blue tits etc. The area of woodland by the STW is fairly small, so should be OK to re-find if it sticks around.
Other stuff included Dartford warbler, 5 purple sandpiper at Sedger’s Bank, a light-bellied brent among a flock of six brents at Porteynon (Rob Taylor had had 2 l-b brents earlier) and 34 ringed plover. Lots of sparrowhawk activity, with hunting birds seen at Overton village, Porteynon (male) and Overton STW.
3 Fulmar off Longhole Cliff.
Also found a very recently dead mole. Assumedly had surfaced as the ground was saturated. Have found 2 at Overton in the last year and one near Brandy Cove.

For the last week we have had a lesser whitethroat in our garden in the Heath, Cardiff. We would have been certain of the ID if we had seen it in the summer, but shouldn’t this bird be in Africa?

Dipper bobbing alongside Ely River Bridge for a long while as traffic buzzed by!

It is time for the annual quiz again. This year the Margaret Price Memorial quiz will be set by Alastair Flannagan because he won last year’s.
The quiz will be a test for the experts and fun for those like me who have a more basic knowledge, but always an enjoyable evening, so do try to join us, support the society and have a bit of fun.
Doors open soon after 19.00 on Friday with kick-off at 19.30. Admission is just £1.00 each to cover costs. I look forward to seeing you all.

c 200 redwings in the paddock area by the riding school. Couldn`t find any fieldfares in amongst them. 2 mistle thrush near the ambulance station, goosander on the taff and kingfisher on the canal feeder between the taff and the canal.

2 Bitterns,  Otter in middle of pool, paucity of wildfowl, 4 male tufted, 5 Mallard, 44 Canada Geese, 1 Greylag, 2 male Cettis, 1 north pool 1 South Pool.

At least 6+ Hawfinch showed well in the trees opposite the drive-way of the big house with the iron gates and security camera (Ton-y-Bwlch House). Found by Steve Hinton and passed on to Graham Powell.

A Marsh Tit was again in Cogan Wood, approx. 100m before the Dragon Tree.  Little else of note on a lunchtime walk.

High tide this morning produced 3 Grey Plovers, 3 Purple Sandpipers, 113 Oystercatchers, 17 Turnstones, 41 Curlews, 28 Sanderling and masses of Black-headed Gulls on the extensive floods.
